A couple of articles in the current edition of Reason magazine piqued host Mike Ferguson's interest. He discusses the columns that focus on laws regarding some specific jobs. In Oregon and New Jersey, the law still requires most (in many areas, all) gas stations to be full service, meaning that you're not allowed to pump your own gas and gas stations are required to pay a cost that isn't required in most other states. In California, inmates are trained and put to work fighting wildfires each year alongside professional firefighters. However, once the inmates complete their sentence, they are barred by law from being hired as a professional firefighter. Mike covers why they aren't allowed and gives his take on the policy.
